The Joy of Love Project Day 1

I am so excited to be participating in the Joy of Love Online Project hosted by Kelly Willette.  The project is designed to remind each of us of the love we feel for others especially the people and things in our life that makes our hearts smile.  The workshop is free and registration is still open.  Join me in celebrating and photographing the Joy in your life!  You don't have to be a professional photographer to participate.  Check it out!

Each day in February, an assignment is emailed with a open ended prompt with an idea to photograph of your loved ones.  This is a great assignment for me because during busy times, my family is photographed last!

Today's prompt was "What they do."

For my Day 1: "What they do,"  I chose my little bookworm who always has a book in hand.  I have never seen anyone who loves to read like she does.  She will read anything from mysteries to Uncle John's Bathroom Reader!

Be on the lookout for day two!  I can't wait!

Wardrobe Wednesday {winter jackets for your body type}

With a cold snap happening in the South right now, I thought this post from Rebecca Keeling Studios would make excellent reading material for all of us ladies.  We all want to wear the styles that flatter us, especially in portraits. Check out this post to find the best jacket choice for your body type.

Rebecca says...."In the spirit of the wintry cold and snowy weather season upon us, we thought it would be a great idea to continue our outerwear theme from last week and take it one step farther, just for us girls.  You see, when dressing for your outdoor portrait session, outerwear is essential.  Think of it as an extension of your outfit, not as an afterthought!  To do this successfully, we must consider the same rules for dressing our individual body type, about which Kelly has been educating us with her exciting and insightful series of posts!  Keeping these rules in mind will not only help you find the perfect outerwear for your session, it will make you look FAB!  And really, isn't that why we're here?  :)

Catching up

My vacation is over. :(  We are on the road from Branson to Louisiana.  I am being very productive on the drive!  I finished editing a wedding I have been working on at long last! I am in the process of uploading it as I type.  I have a family session to edit,  a wedding album, two books, two CDs and 2 DVDs awaiting my attention.   If you have an unfulfilled order,  I apologize and will get it to you in the next week.  Oh, how could I forget the Summer's Cutest Kid Contest?  I will post the winner later tonight after I check for duplicate votes and recount.  Again, let me say thank you to all of the participants, parents, grandparents and other supporters.  The response has been amazing!  Thanks for your patience!

My break is over! Back to work You gotta love mobile internet!  As I said, vacation is over...LOL

Just thinking...

Today, I went to the Titanic Museum in Branson, MO.  I must say that this was a moving experience!  If you get the opportunity, I highly recommend it!  The story was told in photographs and memorabilia .  The images were just ordinary black and white images of ordinary people. Lately, I have grown to love black and white!  They  make such a dramatic statement.  The image tells the story with no distractions.   My favorite shot I saw today was the one above with a young boy playing with a top.  There was a description that told the story of the family pictured and their lives.  There were many photos displayed that said..."only known photo remaining" or "unidentified passenger".  These images tugged at my heart.  I could only think someone somewhere has no photos of their ancestor or someone may be looking for a photo of their great-great grandma.

I talk to so many people who say.."I need to have a family portrait made."  This is usually followed by a "but" or "as soon as".  The passengers on the Titanic thought they were gong on a grand adventure to tell of for years!  Some did, some didn't.  Some have photos for people to remember them by, some don't  Don't let a few snapshots of your family be the only family photos you have.  Capture the love, laughter and relationships that you share with your family. Have your family portrait made.  You will be glad you did!
